Colonel John Francis Dudash and Captain Alton Benno Meyer were flying an F-105F, Tail Number 63-8277, 45 Kilometers W-SW of Thai Nguyen City, North Vietnam when they were shot down. Capt Meyer was taken prisoner.

Col Dudash was declared missing in action on 26 April 1967. He continued in that status until 7 June 1974, when the Air Force declared him dead, presuming his date of death to have occurred for the purpose of termination of pay and benefits and payment of death benefits. His remains were returned on June 3, 1983 and identified on June 27, 1983. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.

Captain Meyer was released with the other POWs on March 4, 1973 after almost 6 years in North Vietnam Prison Camps.

Col Dudash was survived by his ex-wife, Mrs. Alexandria L. Wells, sons John S. and Lee E. Dudash, all of Flicker Point, Greenville, South Carolina and was also survived by his parents, Margaret and John J Dudash, 9th Avenue, Manville, New Jersey.
