I would like to start by saying that Robert was one of two servicmen that came from our little community of Eagle Mountain, California, and perished in that far away country. That other person has a memorial on this site, his name is Nicholas L. Schroeder. I vaguely remember Robert, I knew Nick better because he was in the same class as my brother. Robert was about three years older than Nick and Chuck, my brother.

Eagle Mountain was a mining community owned by Kaiser Steel Corporation. Everyone in the community knew everyone else and I remember that when Nick died for his country, the whole town was in shock. It was just sixteen months later that we lost another one of our own.

May God always have these two patriots at his side and show favor onto them for all eternity.

We miss you, Robert and Nick.
