William Currence

Bill was a classmate of mine at Salina High in Salina, KS. He left Salina and you can read the letter from his sister about what he did after we graduated. We were trying to find classmates and got in touch with his sister. Another true HERO!!!!

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 15 Jan 1969, HHC, 212th Aviation Battalion, was tasked to provide airlift for the Commanding Officer, 3rd Marine Regiment, and the Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, during Operation Taylor Common. As the Huey was lifting off from an LZ it was hit by enemy fire and crashed. Although Corpsmen from 1/3 Marines were on-scene immediately, all eight men aboard the aircraft died:
