I served with him in Vietnam - went through radio school and staging battalion with Ronald. Before shipping out to Vietnam, he asked me to take his guard duty so he could fly home and see his parents. He said he knew he wasn't coming back. I tried to calm him, that we all had these fears.

I took his guard duty and he got home for his goodbyes.

He knew.

PFC Cavazos' cousin, Army Pfc Reynaldo Roy Cavazos, was killed in action two years earlier, on 18 Feb 1966, while flying as a Huey door gunner.
