Marty was one of the nicest guys I ever met. He died after falling off the back of a 6x6 in Chu Lai in '67. Of all the stupid ways to get yourself killed in Vietnam he had to go and fall off a damn truck!!!
From a brother DISBO.
A Note from The Virtual WallAccording to his service record, LCpl Carranza arrived in Vietnam at the end of October 1966 and was assigned to Service Company, HQ Battalion, 1st Marine Division, as a disbursing clerk. On 06 Feb 1967 he was reassigned to the HQ Battalion's Sub-Unit #2, and on 29 April 1967 was formally transferred to HQ Company, 7th Communications Battalion, and was assigned duties at Chu Lai.
As noted above, on 24 May 1967 he fell from a moving truck at Chu Lai and died the following day at the Station Hospital, Naval Support Activity, Danang.
