In-country the green uniforms all became one, and we considered our Corpsmen as fellow Marines.

Listed here we find another of our unit.
Time passes but the memories remain strong.
So many owe their lives to our Corpsmen.
Our thoughts are with you, "Doc".

Thank you - We of 1st Recon Bn hold the list.

From a fellow Recon Marine.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 16 May 1966 a 20-man force consisting of 13 men from 1st Plt, 1st Force Recon Company and 7 Marines from B Company, 3rd Engineer Bn, were inserted on the peak of Hill 674 13 kilometers south of Phong Dien. Their mission was to establish an observation post and radio relay site on the mountain top. The patrol report contains the following:

The report goes on to describe the actions taken to recover the bodies of the two men and to defend themselves against further attacks by the VC force. The patrol was successfully extracted at 0640, 18 May.

The security guard was Cpl Randy G. Totten of Reed City, Michigan; the Corpsman was HN Loring W. Carper. Both men were assigned to 1st Force Recon Company.
