Patrick, the son of Robert H. Callahan and Frances P. Callahan of Wyandotte MI enlisted in the US Marine Corps on November 29, 1966 in Detroit Michigan. On combat patrol near the hamlet of My Loc in Duy Xuyen District Quang Nam Province, at 1450 hours, PFC Callahan was hit in the chest by a single sniper round. He was evacuated to the 1st MEDBN (Medical Battalion) in Da Nang, but died at 1625 hours from his wound.

Patrick was survived by his parents, Frances Patsy Russell Callahan (1923-1993) and Robert Hugh Callahan (1910-1981), living on 8th Street, Wyandotte. He was also survived by a brother, Edward Bernard Callahan (1956-2011). He is buried in Ferndale Cemetery, Riverview (Wayne County), Wayne County Michigan as are his parents and brother.
