Gerard Allen Binger was born on June 2, 1927 according to his cemetery marker but all other available military and Social Security Administration records indicate his birthday was June 7, 1927.

Raised in New Jersey, he served in the military under the name of Gerard A. Binger. His last enlistment was in 1963 and it's unknown when he began his tour in Vietnam.

Prior to his military service, he served in the Merchant Marine on at least two ships as an Oiler/Seaman/Bosun when he was 17 and 18. The first was S.S. A.C. RUBEL (U.S. Merchant Tanker) and the other was S.S. Minnie M Fiske, a Liberty ship built in the United States during World War II. He sailed on these ships from Canada to California and Okinawa Japan to Oregon.

His marker also shows he had served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam so he probably has additional medals. He was killed in action as noted in the Stars and Stripes article below:

His wife, Virginia Charlene (Davis) Binger (1935-2011) served for two years in the Women's Army Corps and held the rank of Private. During her time in the army, she met and married Gerard on January 23, 1955, at Governor's Island, Fort Jay New York.

Survivors included Gerard's mother, Mrs. Jean Binger, Roselle Park New Jersey, and their children Catherine, Dianna, David, and Wayne Binger. At the time of Virginia's death in Oklahoma, she was also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Staff Sergeant Gerard Allen Binger and his wife Virginia are buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C.
