A Note from The Virtual Wall

Nui Ba Den (Black Virgin Mountain), a dormant volcano, rises some 3000 feet above the surrounding plain in Tay Ninh Province. During the war, the Army had a signal relay station atop the mountain, and Allied troops controlled the plain below - but the slopes of the jungle-covered Black Virgin were no-man's-land. On 13 May 1968 the VC attacked the relay station, killing at least 21 American servicemen in bitter hand-to-hand fighting:

Burial will be in Victoria Lawn Cemetery [St. Catharines, Ontario] after a military funeral service in Church of Nativity in Williamsville near Buffalo. The church service will begin there at 10 a.m.

Army Specialist 4-C Anderson, who moved to Williamsville, N.Y., with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Anderson, 15 years ago, was killed May 13 in combat with the 25th Division at Bue Le Den [sic] in the Central Highlands. He was a radioman.

He had been in Vietnam since October. A Canadian citizen, Anderson joined the army in October of 1966.
