James was born in Monroe, Ohio, and went to schools in Seven Mile, Ohio. He worked in Middletown at the Hasty Tasty Drive-in Restaurant. He received his training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He is buried in Fir Lane Memorial Park, Spannaway, Washington.

I am in the process of writing a book about the Middletown, Ohio, men who died during the Vietnam War. I am hoping that my memorial pages will produce some information from people who might have served with these men.
