My wonderful father, whom I don't remember, gave his all on March 11, 1969 ... I was 2 years old. He had already served his country in the Korean War on the USS Missouri, but he VOLUNTEERED to go to Vietnam with a detachment of Marines in November 1968. He was a talented guitar player, singer ... and loved his wife and 4 children (with me being his baby by 10 years ... a "gift from God" as they said). He had lied about his age to enlist early at the age of 17, so he was a "lifer". He once saved a fellow shipmate when a boiler broke, and my dad, in his underwear in the middle of the night, went in and saved his shipmate from being fatally burned ... he received a commendation from their commanding officer. My father will ALWAYS be my hero, though I will always miss never having a single memory of him. I love you, Daddy!
