The USS LYNDE MCCORMICK (DDG-8) Association site contains the following information regarding Petty Officer West:
Division: OC Division
On-board: 01/65 - 01/68
Comments: Ken West left the MCCORMICK and went for swift boat training. He ended up on a swift boat in the Mekong Delta region in Viet Nam. He subsequently was in a firefight on the swift boat and was killed in action on June 22nd 1969. He was 25 years old. Ken West was a good person. He was fun to be around. He had a great sense of humor and he loved and lived his life to the fullest. He is a hero and he is missed.

With respect to the USS MCCORMICK Association, Petty Officer West was not killed in action but died in a non-hostile situation. The circumstances of his death in no way detract from his service in USS MCCORMICK or while in Vietnam.
