I live every day living in the memory of my dad's little brother. I am Uncle Bobby's namesake and it is a name that I try to live up to every day. Uncle Bobby was our brave Marine who volunteered to go off to war in a time it wasn't popular. I can't tell you how many times I heard about him growing up ... I never grew tired of it. He is our hero ... my dad, an Army officer at the time, was allowed to greet the casket at Treasure Island when he came home. I love you, Uncle Bobby, we all do. My dad (1st Lt. US Army) served during the Vietnam era. My Uncle Bill and Uncle Jim served in the US Navy during the Korean War. My Grandfather served in the US Navy between World War I and World War II. My Great Uncle Lee served during World War II where he gave his life after surviving the March to Bataan only to die on a slave ship enroute to Japan. We are a proud military family and hopefully it will carry on for generations to come. If anyone out there remembers my uncle please let us know. My father would love to hear from anyone and everyone that may have served with Bob Washburn (a.k.a. Peabody.) OohRah and Semper Fi to all the Devil Dogs out there that have served!

A Note from The Virtual WallCamp Carroll was a fire support base located about 7 kilometers southwest of Cam Lo, within artillery range of North Vietnamese positions within the Demilitarized Zone. That was a two-edged sword, though - the NVA had 130mm artillery pieces which out-ranged the weapons at Camp Carroll and frequently brought Camp Carroll under fire. On 27 Aug 1968 a direct hit by a 130mm round killed three Marines from 3/3's Mortar Platoon:
