TO MY BIG BROTHER I just wanted to let you know that I love you and miss you with all of my heart. You are in my thoughts every day. I just wanted to let you know my son (your nephew) became a Marine because of the pride we have in our family and the love we have for you. He completed a 4 year term. You would not believe how much he looks like you.

Uncle Donald, even though I never had a chance to meet you I just wanted to let you know that you have been a hero to all your nieces and nephews our entire lives and will continue to live in our family's hearts and minds forever.

To my war hero... My Uncle Donald. For many years I looked up to you - I never met you, but our family kept you with all of us our whole lives. For many years you have always been in my thoughts. The question that always came up among school, work, and friends: "If you had one person to meet and spend the whole day with, who would it be?" My answer was always the same: My Uncle Donald. Sometimes I think one of the reasons why Rocky, Lee and I are so close is because of you. You inspired all three of us. Rocky is working on a project about and for you. There's so much the three of us have learned about you in the last year because of Rocky. Well, I'm proud to say ... Starting in May 2006 I will be leaving for boot camp, were I will become a Marine ... the first female in our family to become a Marine. The best part is I will become an officer. Uncle Donald, I wanted to let you know that I love you with all my heart. I know you are very proud of me and I will promise you that I will be the best female "devil dog" in the Marines!
Love always, your niece

During this patrol Co B received mortar and small arms fire causing 71 WIA's, nine KIA's, and two MIA's."but there was more to it than that. Quoting from the 1/26 Command Chronology for March 1968, "Intelligence sources revealed that Company B met and defeated in detail the main elements of a NVA Battalion, inflicted 115 NVA KIA and destroyed numerous amounts of ammunition, weapons, and equipment. The operation resulted in ten friendly KIA, two MIA, and 100 WIA, 49 of which were evacuated. ... The agressive fighting spirit of Company B combined with supporting arms fire enabled the company to engage and defeat in detail a numerically superior enemy force entrenched in mutually supporting fortified positions, in the first planned offensive attack of a known enemy position in the battle for KHE SANH Combat Base."The twelve men who died in the engagement were
