11 Sep 2003 Jack Wallace joined HMM-364 on 12 Dec 1970 and served until the squadron stood down from combat operations on 16 Feb 1971, in preparation for returning to the United States. Along with other members of HMM-364 who had not completed their tour, Jack was transferred to HMM-262. On 20 April 1971 he was acting as pilot of a CH-46 which had a transmission failure off the coast of Marble Mountain Air Facility. The plane crashed in the water and Jack was killed in the crash. He was the last casualty suffered by HMM-262 prior to their return to the US. Jack Wallace, and the other Purple Foxes who served in Vietnam, are remembered by the women who waited at home, whether mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, or friends. Those women, the Purple Foxy Ladies continue to support today's Purple Foxes of HMM-364 as they serve our country.
