Wally, as I knew him and "GD" to his family, became instant friends when we arrived in Cu Chi assigned to the Wolfhounds in February 1967.

Not only was he my best friend, but he was best friend to many. Wally talked of the Lord. He talked of his family, mentioning his sister. He told of plans for the farm back home that he loved dearly.

He loved tobacco. We even had a few laughs as he tried to get me to chew some now and then. I remember the time he took down a charging water buffalo. Wally had a good heart and I have learned that he even wanted to pay the farmer for the animal.

Wally was a good soldier. Loved by many. There are others who remember you too, like Jimmy Johnson, Tom Demunnick, Joe Wanta.

It took almost 35 years to find your full name and 38 years to learn my best friend's full name.

Well, Wally, I finally found your brother Kenneth Ray and your sister Betty. Betty named her son after you, George David. We have had a good talk and we will talk again. I let them know that they can be proud of you and your service to your country. I also let them know that I was not the only Wolfhound thinking of you as I do almost every day. I even plan to visit them.

Yo Wally!

It's been 40 years today. Thoughts of you never leave me as you are with me every day. Your sacrifice has not been for nothing. In time I have come to know your family - part of my extended family. So, they still have Wolfhounds in the Wallace Family. Many of us are thinking of you today (Souther, Demunnick, "Doc" Alan, Wanta, etc).

Once a Wolfhound! Always a Wolfhound!
WOLFHOUNDS FOREVER!

Your Brother Wolfhound
