I remember Jerry Vance and think of him often. We served together in the 21st Squadron at Naha AB Okinawa, 1969-70. He was an Aircraft Commander pilot and I was a navigator. We did not fly together very often, but we lived just around the corner from each other in base housing at Naha. My most vivid memory of Jerry is an occasion when my wife and I visited his home on the base and I found that he had a very extensive collection of classical music 33 1/3 stereo records. At that time it was not considered manly to like classical music so I was hiding the fact that I listened to it when I could. Seeing Jerry being so open about it gave me the permission to also openly profess a similar feeling. As nice a guy as Jerry was, he was still very reluctant to loan anyone his records. He would make a tape for anyone, but the records themselves were kept under the most strict conditions of care.

Jerry was and still is a positive influence on my life.
