The database page for Kelton Rena Turner
I have worn Kelton Turner's MIA bracelet for 7 years now. I just found this site and I have learned that he has come home to be grieved and laid to rest. I would love to have anyone who knew Kelton to get in touch with me. I would love to hear a story about him or to see a photo of him. I will now set his bracelet in a safe place and get another to remind those that forget. Thank you to all of you. Kelton - Thank you most of all for making the whole experience more personal, for giving a girl a name to say "I want him home". Thank you for so selflessly giving your life so that our principles would be upheld. You will always be with me and in my heart. - ShawnaPFC K R Turner was among the Marines tasked with recapturing the SS MAYAGUEZ when she was captured by Cambodian forces near Tang Island, Cambodia. While the ship itself was recaptured by Marines boarding from the destroyer USS HOLT, Marines landing on the island itself to locate the ship's crew took a beating. While the forces completed their mission and withdrew in good order, several aircraft were lost. PFC Turner was aboard a USAF CH-53 helicopter that was shot down over water. His remains were returned with others in 1995 and positively identified in 2000.
A complete description of the MAYAGUEZ incident is on the POWNetwork.org site.
