Hi, Bob. It's really hard for me to write this, knowing I have written two others for comrades we both went to high school with. You left behind a twin brother, Bill, and I hope he is able to go on with his life after losing you in a place no one wanted to go, doing a job no one wanted to do. I never knew you had enlisted in the military until I found your name on the Vietnam Vets Memorial Page. What a shock!! You were a smart young man, Bob, and not a bad athlete, either. You gave the ultimate anyone could possibly give for "Duty, Honor, and Country". I am truly sorry you were one of the 58,000+ that did not return to "The World", but your name, like all the others before and after you, will live forever, etched in black granite on the great healing Wall in Washington, D. C. I have been there, Sir, and touched your name, and wept. I have an etching of your name, along with the others we went to school with. I miss you, Bob, as much as I do the others. Rest easy, Sir. The great divide is all that keeps us from seeing each other again. See you soon, Sir. "TEN HUT, HAND SALUTE, TAPS". Thank you again from a grateful vet. "The Fizz" |
