Dear John,

I will never forget your constant smile and your love for your troops and more importantly, you wife and two daughters. I will always remember you with great fondness and I will always love you in equal measure. I pray that you are with the Lord now so that one day we can meet again and laugh, and talk, and smile with all of this behind us.

Love from your friend,
Sgt. Ron "Gator" Gometz

A Note from The Virtual Wall

Sergeant Gometz indicated that Sergeant Thornton was assigned to CAP 2-7-3, but official records state that he was assigned to Headquarters, 2nd CAG, at the time of his death.
