The announcement of PFC Roosevelt Sherman's death in Vietnam was announced in the Greenville Delta Democrat Times, Tuesday, July 23, 1968 in a small clipping on the front page:

Records show that the 3 men below died from wounds received while on a combat operation when their unit, Company C, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment engaged a hostile force in a firefight.

In addition, two other men died on the same day from Company B. It is undetermined whether both of those 1st Battalion companies were operating together when they encountered the enemy, as is often the case. The men were:

Charles Cameron and Roosevelt Sherman were best friends. They were sworn in at the same time, trained together, and served in Vietnam together.
