The database page for Andrew Carnegie Strong
Andrew C. Strong was 19 years old when he died. He was my uncle that I never met. The Army was supposed to send him to college but they sent him over to Vietnam. After he died someone showed up at Grandma's and told her that Andy had died but they couldn't tell her how. If there was a body left Grandma never got it back. At her house there are all sorts of things but when I was younger - the one thing that caught my eye was a mini-statue that was maybe a foot tall and had four soldiers on it and it says "In loving memory of Andrew C. Strong". After my 13th birthday in September she told me his sad story. As soon as I'm a little older she's taking me to Washington and we are going to go and visit the Wall. I also remember going to the Moving Wall and she would gather all the letters that she had written since the last time she went and put them into a ziplock baggie and put them down in front of the Wall by his name. Once we went with my dad and some veteran stood up on the stand and he gave the most touching speech. In all of my 13 years that was the first and only time I ever saw my father cry. Uncle Andy, we love you and miss you dearly.
From his brother's daughter, |
Andy, I will always remember you. You were my best friend, and when I was lonely and new in town, you befriended me. I attended your wake, and have kept your memory alive in my heart all these years.
