Gordon died March 16, 1970, in Quang Nam province, South Vietnam. His second tour in Vietnam began in early March, 1970, after he had a 30 day leave to travel home to Grand Rapids, Michigan. He visited with his mother, three brothers, two sisters, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law. Gordon's older brother and brother-in-law had just completed duty in South Vietnam.
