Robert Smith is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Panel 47E Line 055.

Robert was killed in action 13 days before his actual rotation date back to the states. Through an act of kindness he perished. He had already been released from the field and while back at the base camp volunteered to drive a new tank out to the field so he could say goodbye to his friends one last time. He never made it. He was ambushed by RPG and killed instantly. The only casualty that day. I am his brother and even after 34 years I can only say that time does not heal all wounds.
