29 Oct 2004 Sergeant Ronald Shattuck is listed on the Honor Roll for B Battery 2nd Battalion 13th Artillery. I have recently been contacted by members who served with Ron in B Battery. I never met Ron, but wish to commemorate his service, as LTC Joseph Luger wishes us Red Dragon Clan survivors to never forget the sacrifices of the 25 Red Dragon Clan members who were fatalities between 1965-1970. "Without Fear, Favor, or Hope of Reward" is the 13th Artillery Regiment motto. From what the B Battery guys have related to me, Ron definitely lived the part. B Battery was involved in direct fire support missions for the 25th Infantry Division in December 68 - January 69. The battery was positioned at Fire Support Base Bragg II in Tay Ninh Province, and was within eyesight of Nui Ba Din, the Black Virgin Mountain. Anytime Nui Ba Din was in view of a Fire Support Base bad events seemed to occur. Daily attacks from snipers, mortars, and .51 caliber machine guns were common. Sergeant Ron Shattuck started his tour with the Red Dragon Clan in February 1968, and was a short timer in December 1968. He was well-liked by the men who served with him. Rocket and mortar fire hit FSB Bragg II on December 30, 1968. Ron died from wounds suffered in the mortar attack. His loss is especially mourned by B Battery members Bob Newcombe, Rich Reed, and Mike Marks who served with him, and from whom this information was gathered. Rest in Peace, Sergeant Shattuck.
