Billy,
I remember our walks around town smoking a cigarette and daring the cops to bust us. I remember the walks to Woolworth's and finding some old wooden stairs and just sitting and talking about life. Billy, I want you to remember that you always be in my mind and heart forever. Jerry and the guys say hey and you better be ready for them, meaning having a cig and a cloud ready.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

PFC William J. Scannell was wounded in action on 28 August 1968 and died of his injuries on 12 Sep 1970 - two years afterwards. More than a decade later, when the Services compiled the lists of Vietnam War casualties some men who had died of wounds were overlooked - and William J. Scannell was one of them. His name was added to the Wall in 2003:

[Kevin] Joyce's name was added to the black granite Vietnam wall along with those of three other vets -- James Mark Rogers, Dwaine Usry McGriff and Frank Luther Huddleston -- who died from their wounds.

Also added last year were the names of Donald Carson and William J. Scannell who died in action during the war. Their names had been inadvertently left off the wall.

The Defense Department reviews medical records to determine if a Vietnam veteran's death was war-related, thus entitling him to a place on the wall, Stout wrote.

Since 1982, when the memorial was dedicated, 296 names have been added.

So far, the names of 58,235 men and women who died in action or are missing in action have been etched into the wall.

And there will be more.
