Howard was a career military man. He had served over 18 years in the Army at the time of his death. He had served in Korea during the Korean War and also returned to serve additional time there in the mid 60s. He served in Germany and many stateside bases. He was a cook. He was buried at the Resthaven Cemetery in Midland, Texas with full military honors. He is remembered by the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial.

A Note from The Virtual WallOn 25 August 1970 SP4 Ivan L. Barger of Warner, Oklahoma, assigned to the 101st Admin Company, died in an accident involving a hand grenade. Four days later, SP5 Howard E. Satterfield died of injuries previously received in an accident. The date SP5 Satterfield was injured is not known, and there may be no relation between the two deaths ... but there may be. |
