A Note from The Virtual Wall

The 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry's operations logs for 27 and 28 November 1968 describe a vicious engagement which took place in Tay Ninh Province about 15 kilometers southeast of Katum. Seven US soldiers were killed in the fight:
  • 1LT Gordon E. De Garmo, Mount Holly, NJ, HQ Company;
  • 1LT Dwight C. Sarjeant, Perrysburg, OH, D Company;
  • SGT John B. Ulfers, Sibley, IA, D Company;
  • CPL Jerry M. Dauber, New York, NY, A Company;
  • CPL Wayne J. Rogers, Hanford, CA, C Company; and
  • PFC Richard L. Hammett, San Leandro, CA, C Company.
