A great loss!

I was in country when Ronnie died. I knew him from college wrestling through his friends Kumpf and Schroeder. I was up north and not involved with the Cambodian push. I never knew of his death until after I DEROSed.

What a competitor - what a loss!

My mailing address is P.O. Box 391, Lewiston, MN 55952.
God bless.

This is for you, my friend:

RONALD RAY SAGERS, SSG

I still miss you and your caring for the world, Ron. You were a guiding light for the short time I knew you in college. We attended the University of Dubuque together for two years, before you were taken from us in a country we weren't even in, Cambodia. What a shame to lose someone that worked so hard to get through school to make a difference, in our world, only to be wasted like so many others.

Lord have mercy on all of our fallen brothers and sisters from that era.

Ronald,

As your friend, I hurt so badly when you were killed. We had been so lucky for so long, I thought we would be invincible. There is seldom a week that passes that I don't remember you and wonder, "Why you and not me?".

I have never forgotten you, good friend.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

D Company, 1/5th Cavalry, lost three men on 22 May 1970:
  • SSG Ronald R. Sagers, Maquoketa, IA
  • SGT Arthur P. Adame, San Antonio, TX
  • SGT Joseph M. Hartl, Chicago, IL
While the DoD casualty database is coded to indicate that Staff Sergeant Sagers died from fragmentation wounds, Mr. Henderson states that he was killed by gunshot - and he was there.
