For Jimmie, my friend, I miss you. I remember the times your sister and I would get mad at each other when we were kids and you would still have me come over to the house. We had lots of fun growing up next door to each other.
From a friend, |
Jimmie Poe and I went through Advanced Infantry Training (AIT) together at Fort Gordon, Georgia, during the months of May and June, 1966. He was a good guy and always strove to do his best. We spent a lot of time together as we were in the same platoon. When we shipped out to Vietnam, he was sent to the 1st Infantry Division and I went to the 25th Infantry Division. Our AIT company lost 14 men in Vietnam that I am aware of, including my friend, Jimmie Clyde Poe. May he rest in peace.
From a fellow soldier, |
He was a true big brother.
From his only sister and the middle child, |
My name is Adam Benjamin Poe. Jimmie would have been my Uncle - he was my father's older brother. I am 9 years older than Jimmie was at his death. I have served in the Military as well. I am thankful that there are the memorials for such men, but I wish they were not necessary. I have seen his name on stone more than I have seen his face in picture. I know only that he is missed more than is expressed by those who knew him.
