A Note from The Virtual Wall

HQ and Service Company, 1st Amtrac Battalion, lost four men on 10 Feb 1969. Three of them received the Silver Star, America's third highest award for courage under fire:
  • 2ndLt Richard L. Cotter, Peabody, MA (Silver Star)
  • Cpl Barry V. Detrempe, Peoria, IL (Silver Star)
  • HM3 Huger L. Phelps, Greenfield, IN (Silver Star)
  • LCpl Carl E. Goldsmith, Clarksburg, WV
