On 08 Dec 1968 Charlie Company, 1/3rd Marines, lost three men to a misdirected artillery shell:
  • Sgt Marvin L. Hartman, Camas, WA;
  • Pfc Fred Gertzen, Zieglerville, PA; and
  • Pfc Jerry L. Owens, Danville, AR.
