I would like to honor the memory of my Step-Uncle whom I've never met but have always seen his photograph on my Step-Mother's night stand when I was growing up. He was a member of the Recon Platoon, 1st/14th Infantry Regiment - the "Golden Dragons" - and was killed on November 19th, 1966. I have been in touch with several of his Vietnam comrades and they all spoke very highly of him. In fact, the family never really knew the details of his death until these brave men answered my request and gave us the answers we were looking for. I would like to thank them once again. And to Uncle Jimmy, thank you for serving and giving our great Country your ultimate sacrifice. Your service to it has made our family proud and has really touched me. I only wish I could have met you and thanked you with a hand-shake and a hug.

A Note from The Virtual Wall

While conducting a sweep near Landing Zone Lane on 19 November 1966, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, engaged two battalions of the NVA 33rd Regiment. Although 1/14 had 17 men killed in heavy fighting, they inflicted an estimated 280 casualties on the enemy, who left 166 of their dead on the battlefield. Details of the action are available on the 1/14 Infantry site . Sergeant Ted Belcher received a posthumous Medal of Honor, and three men received Distinguished Service Crosses: 1Lt Frank G. Primmer, PSgt William J. Wickward, and Sp4 Ronald K. Westfall. The 17 Americans killed in action were
