A Note from The Virtual WallBetween 18 and 21 April 1968 Bravo Company 1/5 Marines was under the control of 2nd Bn, 5th Marines, participating in a search and destroy mission west of Hue. The 2/5 After-Action Report contains the following entry:"At 200905H [9:05 am, 20 Apr], a platoon from Company B, on patrol at YD881235, received auto/small arms fire, a CS grenade, and 82mm mortar fire from an estimated platoon of enemy at YD880231. The platoon returned automatic weapons, small arms fire, 20 rounds 81mm mortar, 8 rounds 106mm RR, and 20 rounds 105mm artillery; air strikes of fixed wing and UH-1E gunships were conducted in support of the contact. At 201040H, one platoon and the Company B CP were dispatched to reinforce the platoon. Results: 8 USMC KIA, 13 USMC WIA (evac), 7 USMC WIA (nonevac), 12 NVA/VC KIA (confirmed), 11 NVA/VC KBA (confirmed), 4 SKS, 1 RPD LMG, assorted munitions and documents."
