5 Oct 2002 Pedro Munoz was a Navy Corpsman who gave his life while rendering medical assistance to members of the 1st squad, Bravo Co., 1st Battalion, 9th Marines on May 12, 1966. During a furious battle with an overwhelming force of Main Force VC Regulars, twelve members of the fourteen man patrol were killed in action, and the other two were severely wounded. HN Munoz, disregarding the withering fire, steadfastly gave medical care to members of the squad. Ultimately, he was mortally wounded by small arms fire while giving assistance to a Marine at the forward most position of the squad formation. HN Munoz gallantly gave his life attemping to care for the Marines he cared deeply about. For his couageous actions, HN Munoz was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
