A Note from The Virtual WallHill 861 at Khe Sanh, 25 April 1967 ... The infamous "Hill Fights" were just beginning, and Kilo 3/3 was called in to take possession of a previously unoccupied mountaintop - the twin peaks of Hill 861. Kilo 3/3 started up the hill early on the 25th - and found that the North Vietnamese Army had had the same idea, only sooner. Kilo 3/3 encountered the best part of an NVA regiment dug in on the hilltop - a discovery that cost the lives of seven Marines and sailors and which set off an extremely bitter and prolonged fight for the strategic hilltops.
