We were in flight school together and became close friends and would still be today if he hadn't been killed in his last month in Nam. After the Fort Wolters phase we rode together to California in my Healy and stayed at his parents house for a few days. They were nice people and lost a great son. I think of him often. Rod Barber |
A Note from The Virtual WallThe 92nd Assault Helicopter Company was one of the many U.S. aviation units which supported operations in Cambodia during the spring of 1970. Warrant Officer Mitton was the pilot in command of UH-1H tail number 68-15412 during a troop movement mission. While lifting off from the landing zone WO Mitton was hit in the head by enemy fire and was rendered immediately unconscious. Although his copilot took control of the aircraft and landed at once, Mitton died before anything could be done for him. |
