23 May 2003 "Bobby" was my ideal growing up in Patterson. He was an Eagle Scout, active in sports and church. I wanted to be just like him ... I still have a picture of him camping when we were in 7th grade. He was an only child ... the apple of his parents' eyes. My prayers are with them now and forever ... Peace. 29 Dec 2004 It was my honor and privilege to have served in the same platoon as "Chuck" Mears. Although it's been 37 years I can still visualize his ready smile and guileless ways. I respected Chuck's humility, quiet confidence, inner-strength, and easy-going manner. I never met a more trustworthy, dependable man. God bless all of you, family and friends! 25 Apr 2007 Just found the memorial to Charles Mears. I'm not sure but think that he might be the same kid I worked with in the summer of 1965 with the U.S. Forest Service, Shasta-Trinity National Forest. As I remember, he was at least part-Indian and said his Indian name was "Nasta Adahi" or something close to that. He was an excellent hiker and a real warrior, even at age 19. He taught me axe throwing too. Seems like he was a student at Humboldt State College then, at least part-time. Even though we only worked together on the thinning crew for 3 months and it was over 40 years ago, he was one of the most memorable persons I ever met. 15 Jul 2007 I remember Bob as unselfish and the ultimate team player. We ran track together at Patterson High. If he wasn't fast enough in the 440 he made sure that his team mates could win the race.
