Who didn't like Joe? How could anyone who knew him not love the guy? Always smiling and making us laugh. Always a word to ease the tension. Our whole unit was devastated by the news that he'd been hit. As I recall, he never had the chance to see his baby daughter. He was a true friend.

A Note from The Virtual WallMike 3/26th lost four men on 09 May 1968:
Corporal MacLeod and Lance Corporals McGee, McGill, and Wigton all served on Hill 881S and went with Mike Company when 3/26 was withdrawn to the Quang Tri City area ... but that area had its own problems, and 3/26 was afforded little time before beginning combat operations anew. The four men were killed in a patrol action about 4 kilometers southwest of Quang Tri Airfield. |
