The database page for Henry Thurman McCrimmon
"Hank" was my best childhood friend. He was a tremendous dancer and the best hitter on our Little League team. Hank was very popular, very charismatic. After graduating from Dudley High School, Hank, Elvester Hester and I worked the summer at a mill in Greensboro. I joined the Marines and a few months later Hank and Elvester joined the Army. They left for Vietnam shortly after I returned from my first tour. Both died in the war in 1968.

A Note from The Virtual WallAlthough the Central Identification Laboratory Hawaii's database indicates Sergeant McCrimmon was assigned to B Co, 1st Bn, 327th Infantry, he is mentioned by name on the 3rd Bn, 506th Infantry web site, where his name is marked as having died after transfer from 3/506. The Virtual Wall has been advised as follows by someone who served with him:"Henry was an original member of 3rd Battalion, 506th Airborne Infantry that shipped over to Vietnam in October of 1967. After Tet of 1968 Henry was transferred up North, apparently to the 327th. This may clarify why he is shown as having been in both." Five members of the Class of 1965, James B. Dudley High School (Greensboro, NC), died in Vietnam:
The three Marines and two paratroopers are remembered by their friends on the Dudley High '65 site . |
