George and I were classmates for 7 years. Like most of the girls in my class, somewhere in that 7 years we all had crushes on him.

George was funny, he had a wonderful sense of humor and was always up for a gag or trick, some of which drove our teachers nuts.

Coming from a tiny Western Maryland town and a class of just over 80, we were all friends. We were there for one another, I only wish we had all been there for him at the end.

George was an athelete. He played soccer long before it was popular. With our school being so small, we didn't have football, so soccer was our fall sport. George was our goalie. Once he was diving for a ball at the net and ran his head into the goal post. In our 1965 yearbook there is a picture of this with the caption - "Do or die for Clear Spring High". He certainly did his part to see that we always had a winning season.

He also played basketball for a few seasons. He may not have had the height but he had the heart.

My greatest wish would have been that I could have attended his funeral. I was just out of Basic Training myself and wasn't able to attend. He is remembered all the time by his fellow classmates and especially at all our reunions. We miss you, George.
