Pfc Pedro Martinez was from a small town called Relampago located on Military Highway 281 close to Mercedes, Texas. It is located deep in the Rio Grande Valley right next to the Rio Grande River. Good people. A memorial was held honoring his services and the town of Relampago now has a street named in his honor - Pfc Pedro Martinez Road. At the time that Pfc Martinez was in Vietnam, I was with Lima 3/1. There were four of us from the Rio Grande Valley in my company alone. I wish I could have met Pfc Martinez over there since we were in the same area but different units. Pfc Martinez was only 19 when he met his fate. He served honorably and died gallantly on the field of battle. I am proud to have shared the field of battle with him. May he Rest In Peace. Semper Fi, Pedro.

From a brother-in-arms from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas,
