Silver Star

On June 16th 1968, with disregard for his personal safety, James crawled within 10 yards of an enemy bunker and hurled a grenade into it causing its destruction. Specialist Martin then maneuvered towards another hostile position. This time he overcame a great amount of enemy hostile fire. As James was closing in on a third enemy entrenchment he was mortally wounded by enemy fire.

Dear Jim,

Even though I was only 7 when you died, through your friends you grew up with I have learned what a special person you were. I miss you.

Love,
your sis
Charlene
