A Note from The Virtual WallThe 3/3 Marines' Command Chronology for August 1968 reports that the battalion rear element was at Camp Carroll near Ca Lu, while the bulk of it was in forward company positions near the Rockpile. On 27 August both locations received 130mm artillery fire from NVA positions within the Demilitarized Zone. Ten Marines were killed by the artillery:
