I visited the Wall again yesterday and spent several minutes remembering Jim, and what a great sport, good friend, and all-around solid guy he was. Kiwi, you're as alive in my mind today as you were when we served together at Glynco and Cherry Point. You haven't been forgotten, and won't be forgotten by any of us who had the good luck to know you.

I was with Kiwi in Glynco and he taught us how to play Rugby. We found out fast how tough Jim was and we were not. I served with MATCU-67 from May of 68 through May of 69 and he indeed is a hero. Semper Fi, Kiwi.

Hello Garry Lott, and family and friends of James Lott, USMC. I was stationed with your brother, James Lott, USMC, about 40 years ago. I know we were together at Glynco, Georgia, when we went through air traffic control school in 1966. Jim was a wonderful guy and I think of him often, especially when the Vietnam Wall is mentioned. I touched his name there when I visited the Wall around 1984. Semper Fidelis, brother.

A Note from The Virtual WallThe MAG-12 Command Chronology for May 1968 contains the following entry:"On 8 May 1968 Corporal James Edward LOTT received wounds during an enemy rocket attack upon Chu Lai which resulted in his death. In addition to Cpl LOTT 5 other Marines were wounded in action: Cpl Gerald W. RYSER, SSgt John M. CALL, SSgt John F. RUSH, SSgt John W. PEKRIK, and Cpl Richard A. Smart."The other five injured Marines recovered from their wounds. Jim Lott's father was a US Marine stationed in New Zealand during World War II. He, his brother Garry, and Mike Golaboski (a friend, also the son of a US Marine), all New Zealanders, enlisted in the Marines at the same time and served in Vietnam at the same time. Jim and Golaboski were at Chu Lai, while Garry was a Marine rifleman. |
