A Note from The Virtual Wall The 2nd Bn, 5th Marines Command Chronology for July 1968 reports that Echo and Fox Companies, 2/5 moved to the An Hoa area on 24 July, the point elements for the battalion. On the 25th the remainder of 2/5 was relieved and began movement to An Hoa, arriving on the 26th. On arrival, the Battalion Commander found that Echo 2/5 was engaged at Phu Nhuan about 4 kilometers northeast of the An Hoa airfield and immediately committed additional forces. By 6:00 pm Echo, Fox, and Hotel Companies were committed to clearing the village area. Seven Marines were killed in the engagement: E Company: LCpl Merlin G. Cornelius, Chicago, IL LCpl Allen J. Grovner, St Simons Island, GA LCpl Rocco R. Isaac, Philadelphia, PA LCpl Jack S. Smith, Perry, FL Pfc Eric Parker, Cleveland, OH F Company: SSgt James R. Long, Hancock, MI H Company: LCpl Richard W. Hanley, Philadelphia, PA
