It is said a man hasnt died as long as he is remembered. This prayer is a way for families, friends and fellow veterans to remember our brothers and sisters.

I Am Not Dead

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am diamond glints of snow;
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush;
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds encircled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

Lyrics by Mary Frye (1932) and Wilbur Skeels (1996)

Sleep well, Lee. I will always remember you and what we had together will stay in my heart forever.

Written for Millard Lehman and Ralph Saum. The mournful picture of Ralph after placing a carnation at Millard "Lee's" name at the Traveling Wall in New Phildelphia, Ohio on June 11th 2006 inspired this poem.

The Wall

I stand here looking at a man by the Wall,
looking for his comrade who took the fall.

Searching among the sea of black,
while memories of the past come rushing back.

As the nightmare of old once again unfolds,
in his trembling hand, a red carnation he holds

Deep in his heart he hopes not to find,
the friend of whom was left behind.

Years have done nothing to ease the pain,
as his soul feels his buddies' presence again.

A thousand times over the pictures unfold,
of all the stories waiting to be told.

In a crowd full of people, each man stands alone,
looking beyond the black marble stone.

Wounds so deep, they can not be seen,
longing for what should of been.

When will the memories go away?
When his buddy embraces him in heaven someday.
