Kenny was my cousin. I was only 6 years old when he was killed in action piloting a chopper while trying to save the lives of fellow soldiers. Unfortunately I never got to know him.

Nevertheless Kenny has always been a hero to me. In my mind he epitomizes patriotism and selfless devotion to country and his fellow soldiers, splendid qualities that are ever harder to find these days.

Thank you for your service to our country, Kenny. Rest in peace.

CITATION:

For extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam, while serving with the Troop F, 9th Cavalry, 3d Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division. Captain Lasater distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 13 February 1972. His extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty, at the cost of his life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
