This entry is in memory of my cousin. I never knew him well for I was only twelve years old when he gave his life for our country. I remember he was raised on a farm in Northwest Georgia. A big ol' strapping country man who could lift two 200 pound hogs at a time, one on each shoulder. I remember our family visiting my aunt after he had returned from boot camp. He was so pround to wear the uniform of the USMC. I remember how impressed I was when I looked up to him, he was so tall and straight and not a wrinkle in that uniform. He understood that there was a good chance that he might never return home, but considered it the highest honor to serve his country when they called upon him. I remember that they told us from his letters home, that he was only a few days from getting out of South Vietnam on R&R before he was killed. They were sweeping for mines on a road in Quang Nam and his job was to remove the exposed mine off the road so it could be detonated safely. The mine was booby trapped, and it went off when he tried to pick it up. I have been to the Wall and I have an etching of his name to frame and honor his memory. I ride my motorcyle in many rides to honor him as well. God Bless You, Richard, from your USN Veteran cousin Paul.
