Clifford and I were in recon together during his first tour in Vietnam in 1967/68. Both of us were sent over to Vietnam from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with the 101st Airborne Division in December of 1967. Clifford was going to be a career soldier. He loved what he was doing and always accepted his orders and duties without argument. He was not wounded during our first tour, but lost his life during his second tour. He was an asset to our recon team in his first tour and I'm sure as well with his second tour. He gave his life for what he believed in and for his country.

I was 13 when J.C. was killed. His mom, Dorothy Wells, was our next door neighbor. I'll never forget the day the Army came to their house and broke the news; it seemed the grieving wail of his mother echoed all over Corbin. My brother had come back from Nam in 66, but Nam finally killed him in 2003. J.C. was one of 3 people who were neighbors of ours that lost their lifes in Nam. His was the first military funeral I attended and although it was very sad, there was a sense of honor and enourmous pride in the Taps. I have always had the deepest respect for our Vets, especially the Vietnam Vets. I visited the Wall in 02, and traced his name from the Wall along with Ralph McNew and David Miles, our other neighbors we lost.
